This is available to parties who are parents, but never married. Parents who were never married have the same rights and responsibilities to their child(ren) as married parents. This is the proper action to bring whether both parties know or suspect they are the parents to a child. Once a parentage action is opened, the court may order genetic testing to determine parentage if there is a disagreement between the parties.
